That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, commonly referred to as TenSura, premiered in 2018 as an adaptation of the popular light novel series written by Fuse and illustrated by Mitz Vah. Produced by the animation studio 8-bit, the series follows an office worker who is reincarnated into a fantasy world as a slime, where he develops a unique ability to absorb and mimic the powers of other creatures. The production team focused on balancing expansive world-building with a lighthearted tone, successfully translating the narrative's blend of political strategy and character-driven adventure to the screen.

The character design and visual direction were aimed at capturing the vibrant, high-fantasy aesthetic of the original source material while utilizing modern digital animation techniques. Upon its release, the series received significant critical attention for its protagonist’s unconventional progression system and the depth of its secondary cast. It became a flagship title for the isekai genre during its era, praised by audiences for its fluid animation and its exploration of how a seemingly powerless creature can foster cooperation among disparate monster races.
