Sakurai Yuki is an orphan with a mysterious ability. Found near the fence of his current home, the Asahi Orphanage, Yuki strives for independence. The last thing he wants is to be a burden on anybody. His ability makes this nearly impossible, however; whenever he touches someone, he feel their emotions and see the darkness within their hearts and exactly what caused such darkness. Unable to control his ability, Yuki has often made insensitive blunders while trying to empathize with the person he feels pain for. Now, however, with death threats clouding his judgement and his ability increasing immensely, what will happen when a man claiming to be Yuki's older brother appears?

Where it came from
The Betrayal Knows My Name, known in Japan as Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru, was adapted into a 24-episode television anime series by studio J.C.STAFF in 2010. Based on the long-running manga series by Hotaru Odagiri, the story centers on Yuki Giou, a young man raised in an orphanage who discovers his supernatural past and his connection to an ancient war between the Duras and the Zweilt Guardians. The series belongs to the supernatural fantasy and shoujo genres, emphasizing themes of reincarnation, destiny, and interpersonal bonds.
The animation design was overseen by director Katsushi Sakurabi, who aimed to translate Odagiri’s delicate and ornamental character illustrations into a fluid visual language. The series is noted for its melancholic atmosphere and its specific aesthetic, which leans heavily into high-fantasy tropes typical of the late 2000s shoujo anime landscape. While it garnered a dedicated following for its character dynamics and soundtrack, it was primarily received as a faithful adaptation that catered specifically to fans of the original manga’s gothic-romantic tone.
