Fascinated by murder and all things macabre, Kyoutarou daydreams of acting out his twisted fantasies on his unsuspecting classmates — but an encounter with Anna Yamada, the gorgeous class idol, lights a spark in the darkness of his heart. It’s a classic tale of an antisocial boy falling for a popular girl, but neither are who they appear to be at first glance. Will Kyoutarou and Anna defy their expectations of each other — and of themselves?

Where it came from
The Dangers in My Heart originated as a manga series by Norio Sakurai, serialized in 2018 before being adapted into this 2023 television anime. Produced by Shin-Ei Animation under the direction of Hiroaki Akagi, the series follows the socially awkward Kyotaro Ichikawa and the popular Anna Yamada. The production was noted for its deliberate shift in tone, moving from a dark, brooding premise toward a nuanced exploration of teenage insecurity and social development.
The visual direction and character designs were crafted to emphasize the contrast between the protagonists' internal worlds and their external interactions. By utilizing expressive animation techniques and a grounded color palette, the studio sought to capture the subtle, often unspoken evolution of the central relationship. Critics and audiences generally received the adaptation favorably, praising it for its maturity and the organic pacing of the character growth throughout the season.
