The Dangers in My Heart Special

The Dangers in My Heart, or Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu, began as a manga series by Norio Sakurai in 2018 before being adapted into an anime series by Shin-Ei Animation in 2023. The project emerged during a period of renewed interest in character-driven romantic comedies that balance dark, introspective humor with genuine emotional sincerity. The studio aimed to translate Sakurai's nuanced visual storytelling, which relies heavily on subtle facial expressions and non-verbal communication, into a fluid animated format that honors the manga's unique tone.

The production design reflects a deliberate shift from standard tropes, focusing on the internal psychological growth of its protagonists, Kyotaro Ichikawa and Anna Yamada. The direction emphasizes atmosphere and lighting to mirror the shifting dynamics of the characters' relationship. Upon its release, the adaptation was received warmly by critics and audiences alike, frequently praised for its high production values and its ability to maintain the delicate tension between awkward adolescent anxiety and heartfelt connection.
