Where it came from
The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls Theater 2nd Season was produced by studio Gathering and aired in 2017 as a direct continuation of the short-form anime series based on the mobile social game. This series was created to provide a comedic, lighthearted companion to the main franchise, focusing on the daily lives and whimsical interactions of the Cinderella Girls idols outside of their high-stakes performance schedules.
The aesthetic of the series remains faithful to the 'petit' character designs originally featured in the game’s in-app comic strips. By utilizing this chibi art style, the production team emphasized a playful tone that prioritized character chemistry and slapstick humor, a departure from the more dramatic narrative arcs found in the mainline 2015 television series. It was received by the fanbase as a beloved supplement that successfully expanded the personality profiles of the expansive roster of idols.
