Where it came from
The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Theater, also known as Cinderella Gekijou, originated as a short-form manga strip featured within the Cinderella Girls mobile game. Following the success of the 2015 television anime adaptation, Gathering produced this web-based ONA series beginning in 2017 to bring the humor and daily antics of the franchise's extensive roster of idols to life in a more lighthearted, chibified format.
The series was designed to emphasize character interaction and comedic timing, moving away from the high-stakes production drama of the main series. By focusing on the playful, everyday lives of the 190 idols, Gathering sought to deepen audience engagement with individual characters. It was well-received by fans for its faithfulness to the source material's visual style and its ability to provide screen time to lesser-known idols who rarely appeared in the primary animated adaptations.
