After an airplane crash during a school trip, Oribe Mutsumi and her classmates were stranded on a seemingly deserted island. Mutsumi found the other survivors, and used her wilderness knowledge to help them. She expects that they will be rescued in about three days, which doesn't seem so long to endure. However, she didn't account for the fact that the island is populated with gigantic killer insects. Her knowledge of butterflies, wasps, and more may be the only thing that will help any of her classmates survive to be rescued.

Where it came from
The Island of Giant Insects, released as an original video animation in 2019, was produced by Studio Passione and based on the manga series by Yasutaka Fujimi and RED ICE. The project originated as a survival horror premise intended to revitalize the genre through an anime adaptation, utilizing a crowdfunding campaign to help facilitate its development. The story follows a group of students whose plane crashes on an island inhabited by mutated, predatory insects, forcing them to navigate extreme circumstances to survive.
The animation was directed by Naoyuki Tatsuwa, with character designs provided by Takayuki Noguchi. The creative team aimed to balance visceral horror elements with the frantic pacing inherent to the source material. Upon its release, the adaptation was received primarily by fans of the original manga, serving as a companion piece to the serialized chapters and highlighting the studio's technical approach to depicting the grotesque creature designs found in the publication.
