After an airplane crash during a school trip, Oribe Mutsumi and her classmates were stranded on a seemingly deserted island. Mutsumi found the other survivors, and used her wilderness knowledge to help them. She expects that they will be rescued in about three days, which doesn't seem so long to endure. However, she didn't account for the fact that the island is populated with gigantic killer insects. Her knowledge of butterflies, wasps, and more may be the only thing that will help any of her classmates survive to be rescued.

Where it came from
The Island of Giant Insects movie, released in 2020 by studio Passione, serves as a direct adaptation of the manga series written by Yasutaka Fujimi and illustrated by RED ICE. The project originated as an original video animation intended to bring the survival horror elements of the source material to life, focusing on a group of students stranded on an island infested with mutated, oversized arthropods.
The production was managed by director Takeo Takahashi and scriptwriter Shigeru Morita, who sought to emphasize the visceral, high-stakes atmosphere characteristic of the survival-thriller genre. Upon its release, the film was largely received by fans as a companion piece to the manga, with critics noting its commitment to the intense, pulpy aesthetic that defined the original illustrated work.
