Where it came from
The Mirror: Twin Cities, also known as Mirror: Twin Cities, is a Chinese animated series produced by Tencent Pictures. It was released in 2022 as part of a broader strategy by Tencent to adapt popular xianxia and fantasy literature into high-fidelity ONA (Original Net Animation) format, aiming to capture the growing domestic interest in computer-generated animation that emphasizes intricate cultural aesthetics and fluid martial arts choreography.
The series is based on the widely read fantasy novel series by Cang Yue. The adaptation process focused on translating the expansive, ethereal world-building of the source material into visual spectacle, utilizing modern motion capture and rendering techniques. Upon its release, it was noted for its polished visual presentation and its efforts to expand the appeal of traditional Chinese fantasy narratives for a contemporary streaming audience.
