Koyuki, the isolated girl; Miki, the former school idol; Minato, the guy with no concept of personal space; and Youta, the gentle basketball player. Clumsy, frustrating, yet deeply endearing — this coming-of-age ensemble drama of crisscrossing hearts marches on.
As they grow closer, Koyuki and Minato begin to develop feelings for each other that go beyond mere friendship. Meanwhile, Youta finally confesses to Miki the feelings he's harbored for years. Some speak their hearts while others keep their emotions hidden, causing their paths — and their feelings for one another — to continuously cross and pass by…

Where it came from
The Ramparts of Ice Season 2, produced by Studio KAI and released in 2026, serves as a pivotal continuation of the dark fantasy series that gained prominence for its intricate world-building. Developed during a period of shifting trends in streaming animation, the series aimed to expand upon the stark, atmospheric aesthetic established in the first season, focusing on the tactical and emotional weight of its central conflict. Studio KAI utilized high-contrast visual techniques to underscore the series' harsh environmental themes, seeking to ground the fantastical elements in a gritty, grounded reality that resonates with adult audiences.
The design philosophy behind the second season emphasizes architectural scale and character-driven stakes, moving away from simple action tropes toward more nuanced political intrigue. The creative team sought to refine the pacing of the source material, ensuring the visual storytelling matched the complexity of the narrative. Upon its release, the season was noted by critics for its ambitious animation quality and its commitment to maintaining the tone of the original work, effectively cementing the show as a significant entry in the 2020s fantasy landscape.
