Nearly 2000 years ago, the prosperous Han dynasty of China collapsed. Heroes rose and fell, and three nations emerged--Wei, Shu, and Wu. Historians refer to this period as the Three Kingdoms period. The romance of the three kingdoms is an intriguing tale of heroic deeds, of alliance forged and broken, of loyalty and betrayal.

Where it came from
The Ravages of Time is a sophisticated ONA adaptation of Chan Mou's long-running manhua, which reimagines the events of the Three Kingdoms period in China. Production was helmed by LX Animation Studio, utilizing a blend of 3D and 2D techniques to capture the intricate, atmospheric art style that the original source material is known for. The series was designed to appeal to mature audiences who appreciate historical revisionism and complex political maneuvering, aiming to translate the dense, strategic narratives of the manhua into a visual medium.
Upon its release, the adaptation was received as a technically ambitious attempt to translate a notoriously difficult intellectual property. While fans of the original manhua scrutinized the shift in visual style and the pacing necessary for the ONA format, the production was noted for its commitment to the tactical themes and psychological depth central to the original story. It stands as a significant, if challenging, representation of Chinese web animation's efforts to tackle high-concept literary adaptations.
