Where it came from
The Senior Class is a 2022 Polish drama directed by Łukasz Ronduda and Łukasz Gutt. The film was produced in the context of contemporary Polish cinema's exploration of artistic subcultures, specifically focusing on the intersection of the punk rock scene and the art world in the 1980s. It serves as a semi-autobiographical reflection on the life of artist Zygmunt Piotrowski, capturing the experimental spirit and social pressures of a generation defined by political transition.
The film's visual design relies on a gritty, authentic aesthetic that mirrors the DIY ethos of its subjects. By balancing archival footage with narrative reconstruction, the directors aimed to recreate the visceral intensity of the underground performance art movement. Upon its release, the film was noted for its uncompromising portrayal of creative obsession, receiving positive attention at international film festivals for its raw performances and commitment to historical atmosphere.
