Where it came from
The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh Part 2 serves as the second half of a two-part original net animation project that expands upon the narrative established in Nakaba Suzuki’s popular manga series. Released on Netflix in 2023, the production follows the journey of Tristan, the son of Meliodas and Elizabeth, as he attempts to reconcile his conflicting powers and save his mother. This project was developed to bridge the timeline between the original series and the sequel manga, The Four Knights of the Apocalypse.
The film utilized a distinctive 3D computer-generated aesthetic, a stylistic choice intended to offer a modernized visual experience compared to the traditional 2D animation of the primary series. Production was handled by Marvy Jack and Studio Hibari under the oversight of Netflix, aiming to capture a younger demographic while satisfying long-time fans of the franchise. Upon release, the film’s reception was marked by discussions regarding its transition to CG animation, reflecting broader industry trends of experimenting with new visual mediums to adapt expansive fantasy lore for global streaming audiences.
