A comic adaptation of Charles Perrault's classic fairy tale about a clever musketeer feline in boots. His goal is to help the weak and defenseless, but his saving a mouse makes him the most wanted in all Catdom. On the run from the notorious Three Blunderers, Perro befriends a young miller's boy, Pierre, and together, they decide to seek their fame and fortune. When they cross paths with the lovely Princess Rosa, Perro determines to get Pierre hitched to Her Royal Highness. But the wicked ogre, Lucifer, also has his sights on Rosa. Nonetheless, with the help of a band of comic mice thieves, Perro manages to get Pierre to become engaged to Rosa. But on the night of the full moon, Lucifer kidnaps the princess, and Pierre, Perro, and the mice bandits set off to rescue her.

Where it came from
Released in 1969, The Wonderful World of Puss 'n Boots stands as a cornerstone of Toei Animation's history. Created to celebrate the studio's twentieth anniversary, the film was designed to showcase the company's technical growth and artistic ambition. It serves as an imaginative adaptation of Charles Perrault's classic fairy tale, reimagined through the lens of a mid-century Japanese animation house looking to establish a distinct, high-quality cinematic voice in the international market.
The film is notable for the early involvement of Hayao Miyazaki, who worked on the production as an animator and contributed significantly to the storyboard and climax sequence. His influence helped shape the film's energetic pacing and expansive sense of adventure. Upon its debut, the project was well-received for its lush color palette and whimsical character designs, ultimately becoming a foundational work that solidified the Puss 'n Boots character as the iconic mascot for the Toei Animation studio for many decades to follow.
