When aliens suddenly invade the world, Earth seems to be fighting a losing battle until Arikawa, one of the defense command staff, accidentally discovers a young man lying on a hill. Tests soon prove the impossible: this one teenager, Kakashi, has the power to defeat the attackers! Unfortunately, Kakashi has also lost his memory, and with it the knowledge of how to actually use his power. Moving Kakashi in with himself and his own commander, Shiro, Arikawa accidentally starts a strange triangle of emotions and relationships. A triangle that threatens the fate of the planet as Kakashi begins to question his own motivations!

Where it came from
This Boy Can Fight Aliens, also known by its Japanese title Kono Danshi, Uchu-jin to Tatakaemasu, was released in 2011 as an original video animation produced by CoMix Wave Films. It serves as the inaugural entry in the Kono Danshi series, a collection of short, experimental works that explore themes of adolescent isolation and connection. The project was directed and written by Soubi Yamamoto, who was only nineteen at the time of its production, marking a significant debut for a creator whose distinct visual style defines the series.
The design and narrative tone of the piece reflect Yamamoto's focus on intimate, character-driven storytelling set against a backdrop of science fiction elements. The animation style is noted for its saturated color palette and fluid, dreamlike sequences, which were intended to highlight the internal emotional states of the protagonist. Upon its release, the OVA garnered attention for its unconventional structure and was well-received by audiences interested in niche, auteur-driven animation that diverged from mainstream industry trends.
