Where it came from
This Boy is a Professional Wizard, released in 2016 as a television series, represents the fourth installment in the Kono Danshi (This Boy) project created by Soubi Yamamoto. The series was produced by CoMix Wave Films, a studio renowned for its meticulous attention to atmospheric detail. This entry follows the established thematic foundation of the franchise, which consistently explores the intersection of fantasy elements and the emotional intricacies of adolescent development, aiming to provide a stylized, character-driven narrative within a concise format.
Soubi Yamamoto served as the director and writer for the series, maintaining a distinct aesthetic identity characterized by vibrant color palettes and expressive, often melancholic, visual composition. The project was designed to emphasize the internal conflicts and professional responsibilities of its protagonists, framing the fantastical role of a 'wizard' as a metaphor for the burden of expectation. Upon its release, the series was received as a niche work that appealed primarily to fans of Yamamoto’s specific artistic vision and those interested in character-focused animation shorts.
