Where it came from
Tianmei de Yaohen, also known as Sweet Bite Marks, is an original net animation (ONA) produced by Tencent Penguin Pictures. It originated as a popular web manhua of the same name, which fits into the shoujo romance genre popular on platforms like Tencent Comics. The adaptation was designed to capture the atmospheric, gothic-romance aesthetic of the source material, focusing on the supernatural tension between a vampire protagonist and a human female lead.
The production utilizes a vibrant, stylized art direction that prioritizes emotional expressions and the dramatic visual tropes typical of modern Chinese animation targeted at young adult audiences. Upon its release, the series became a notable example of Tencent's push into serialized digital content, drawing a dedicated following who appreciated its specific blend of supernatural melodrama and traditional shoujo storytelling conventions.
