In "The Tiger's Hole," the behind-the-scenes organization of the revived wresting world, two young wrestlers take a stand. One of those fighters has inherited the training facility and mask of a tiger that Naoto Itou left at the foot of Mount Fuji. The other fighter has been victorious at fierce competitions since entering The Tiger's Hole, and has obtained the black Tiger Mask. A Tiger Mask that walks down the path of light, and a Tiger Mask that walks down the path of shadow. Neither of them have ever seen each other's face... In the ring, the two are fated rivals, but their goals are the same: "Crush The Tiger's Hole!"

Where it came from
Tiger Mask W was produced by Toei Animation as a direct sequel to the iconic 1969 anime Tiger Mask, which was based on the manga by Ikki Kajiwara and Naoki Tsuji. Debuting in 2016, the series was created to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Toei Animation's founding. The narrative follows two young wrestlers, Naoto Azuma and Takuma Fujii, as they adopt the mantles of Tiger Mask and Tiger the Dark to combat the corrupt Global Wrestling Monopoly, bridging the gap between classic wrestling drama and modern anime aesthetics.
The character designs and animation style were crafted to modernize the gritty, high-stakes tone of the original series while appealing to a new generation of fans. By integrating real-life Japanese professional wrestling organizations like New Japan Pro-Wrestling into the story, the production sought to ground the supernatural elements of the show in the actual culture of contemporary pro-wrestling. It was received as a respectful homage that balanced nostalgic nods to its predecessor with a faster, more stylized approach to fight choreography.
