Where it came from
Tight-rope was produced by PrimeTime in 2012 as an original video animation, or OVA, intended to adapt the popular boys-love manga series created by Natsume Isaku. This project emerged during a period of sustained interest in the genre, seeking to translate the intimate domestic dynamic and the shifting power balance between the two lead characters into an animated format.
The animation reflects the aesthetic trends of the early 2010s, prioritizing character-driven dialogue and expressive, soft-lined character designs that mirror the source material's visual style. Upon its release, it was received primarily by the established readership of the manga, who sought to see the progression of the central relationship depicted with the fluidity and voice acting typical of the PrimeTime production house.
