The anime centres on Tokio, a junior high student living in the present time who is suddenly made a member of the 24th century's Space-Time Administration Bureau. Immediately, he learns that the history he has learned in the textbooks is wrong, and there is a more interesting version of history where the peerless beauty Cleopatra is actually the comic duo of Cleo and Patra, Momotarou is more of an ogre than actual ogres. Together with his teammate Karen, they use the 24 Bokan Mecha to search for the True History.

Where it came from
Time Bokan 24 was produced by Tatsunoko Production and released in 2016 as a modern reimagining of the original Time Bokan series, which first aired in the mid-1970s. The series was developed as part of a push to revitalize classic Tatsunoko intellectual properties for a contemporary audience, aiming to maintain the slapstick, episodic structure that defined the franchise while updating the visual style and narrative pacing for a new generation.
The character and mecha designs were executed with an emphasis on distinct, toy-friendly aesthetics, bridging the gap between retro anime sensibilities and modern digital animation techniques. While the series sought to recapture the comedic chemistry between the hero and the bumbling villains that became a staple of the studio's work, it received a mixed critical reception, with some long-term fans appreciating the stylistic nods to the past while others found the humor and structural shifts less compelling than the original 1975 production.
