Where it came from
Time Bokan: Royal Revival was produced by Tatsunoko Production in 1993 as a two-part original video animation designed to celebrate the studio's rich legacy of comedic science fiction. Created during a period of intense nostalgia for 1970s anime, the project served as a direct tribute to the Time Bokan franchise, which had established itself as a cornerstone of Japanese television since its debut in 1975.
The production sought to revitalize the classic dynamic between the heroic Time Bokan teams and the recurring Doronbo gang, featuring character designs that honored the iconic style of the late Tatsuo Yoshida. By bringing together protagonists from multiple entries in the series, the project was received as a lighthearted, self-referential gift to long-time fans who appreciated the studio's unique blend of slapstick humor and imaginative mecha designs.
