Where it came from
To Me, The One Who Loved You is a 2022 animated feature film produced by TMS Entertainment. The project is notable for being part of a unique multimedia experiment, released simultaneously with a companion film titled To Every You I've Loved Before. Both films are based on the popular science fiction romance light novels by Yomoji Otono, which explore the concept of parallel worlds and the life of a protagonist named Koyomi as he navigates different realities and relationships.
The film's visual identity was crafted to emphasize the melancholic and reflective nature of the source material's multiverse narrative. While the two films share a common origin, each features distinct directorial and stylistic choices to differentiate the divergent timelines depicted in the novels. Upon release, the duology garnered significant attention for its ambitious, non-linear storytelling approach, which encourages audiences to view the films in a specific order to fully piece together the thematic connections between the parallel lives of the characters.
