Where it came from
Tokyo Ravens was produced by studio 8-bit and aired in 2013, adapted from the light novel series written by Kōhei Azano. The series was developed during a period when the studio was building its reputation for adapting complex supernatural and action-oriented light novels, aiming to capture the series' blend of traditional Japanese onmyōdō folklore with modern urban fantasy settings.
The production team, led by director Takaomi Kanasaki, focused on balancing intricate magic-based combat sequences with the character-driven narrative of Harutora and Natsume. Upon its release, the series was noted for its ambitious world-building and commitment to its specific genre tropes, finding a dedicated audience among viewers who appreciated its fusion of high school life and esoteric spiritual battles.
