Tomica Kizuna Mode Combine Earth Granner

Tomica Kizuna Mode Combine Earth Granner was released in 2020 as a multimedia project designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Tomica die-cast vehicle brand. Produced by OLM, the television series centers on the Earth Granner defense team, which utilizes giant transforming mecha, or 'Granners,' to protect the planet from invaders. The project was explicitly conceived to merge the popularity of vehicle-based collectibles with the high-stakes narrative tropes of the mecha genre, creating a cohesive ecosystem where the physical toy line and the on-screen animation serve to reinforce one another's appeal.

The character and mecha designs draw heavily on the aesthetic established by the Tomica brand, prioritizing bold, mechanical silhouettes that translate effectively into modular plastic toys. The series was met with a positive reception among younger demographics in Japan, successfully bridging the gap between traditional toy-based promotion and serialized storytelling. By emphasizing themes of teamwork and connection—reflected in the 'Kizuna' or bond-based transformation mechanics—the production team crafted a nostalgic yet contemporary experience that honored Tomica’s legacy while expanding its presence in the competitive genre of children's science fiction television.
