Tongari Boushi no Memole: Hikari to Kaze no Uta

Tongari Boushi no Memole: Hikari to Kaze no Uta was released in 1985 as a direct-to-video special, functioning as a narrative continuation of the popular television series produced by Toei Animation. The franchise centers on Memole, a tiny alien from the planet Filo who crash-lands on Earth and resides among humans. The special was created to capitalize on the series' sentimental charm and artistic direction, which distinguished it from the more action-oriented animation dominant in the mid-eighties.

The character design and visual tone were heavily influenced by the work of Yoshiko Kudo, whose aesthetic contributed to the show's enduring reputation as a soft-edged, emotive classic of the magical girl and slice-of-life genres. Upon its release, the special was received warmly by the existing fanbase, praised for its cohesive storytelling and the signature whimsical character art that defined the Toei productions of that era. It remains a notable piece for collectors interested in the transition of television anime into standalone OAV formats during the mid-1980s.
