Where it came from
Tori vs. Buta: Buttobi Pizza Battle was released as an original net animation (ONA) in the early 2000s, emerging during a period when Japanese animation studios were experimenting with unconventional, internet-distributed shorts. The project served as a whimsical showcase of chaotic, fast-paced slapstick humor, pitting the bird-like Tori against the pig-like Buta in a frantic, high-stakes competition centered on pizza preparation and delivery.
The animation is characterized by a stylized, exaggerated aesthetic typical of the era's experimental web-based shorts, focusing on kinetic energy and vibrant character designs. While it remains a niche entry within the broader landscape of Japanese animation, it is frequently cited by enthusiasts of early internet-era shorts for its bold visual choices and its commitment to pure, absurd comedy without the constraints of a traditional episodic television format.
