Even though the Destrons have been driven off Earth, a small team of Cybertron Pretenders have remained behind, just in case. Led by Metalhawk ("Hawk" in his human identity), the Pretenders live among the humans, using their Pretender shells to assume human size and appearance. The Cybertrons' caution is rewarded: Destron Pretenders soon appear, led by a mysterious force called Devil Z. The Cybertrons and Destrons soon build up their forces, recruiting humans to become Junior Headmasters and Godmasters (Powermasters).

Where it came from
Transformers: Super-God Masterforce was produced by Toei Animation and debuted in Japan in 1988 as the second installment in the exclusive Japanese-produced Transformers trilogy. Moving away from the established continuity of the American G1 series, the show introduced a distinct narrative focus on the symbiotic relationship between humans and robots, centered around the 'Godmaster' concept where human characters acted as engines for their Transformer counterparts.
The series featured an ambitious design aesthetic that leaned heavily into the popular 'super robot' anime tropes of the late 1980s. Directed by Masamitsu Sasaki, the production aimed to revitalize toy sales by integrating more dynamic, human-centric storytelling. While the series was initially received as a departure from the grittier Western tone of the franchise, it eventually gained a dedicated following for its character-driven arcs and remains a significant milestone in the evolution of Transformers lore.
