Where it came from
True Love Story Summer Days; and yet... is a two-episode original video animation (OVA) series released in 2003, produced by the studio KSS. It serves as a narrative extension of the True Love Story dating simulation series, which gained a dedicated following in the late 1990s and early 2000s for its character-driven storytelling. The OVA was created to translate the interactive, romantic atmosphere of the game into a linear, cinematic format, focusing on the emotional growth of its protagonists.
The production sought to capture the aesthetic sensibilities of contemporary romance anime, emphasizing soft, nostalgic visuals that reflect the 'summer days' theme. While the series did not reach mainstream international audiences, it remains a notable example of the trend during the early 2000s where popular Japanese visual novel franchises were frequently adapted into short-form animated media. The design and direction focused on a gentle, melancholic tone that appealed to fans of the original game's character routes.
