Where it came from
Released in 2012, Utopia is an original video animation that serves as a unique crossover project between three distinct television series produced by P.A.Works: true tears, Hanasaku Iroha, and TARI TARI. The project was conceived as a celebration of the studio's tenth anniversary, aiming to bring together characters from three distinct coming-of-age stories that share the studio's signature focus on emotional depth and character-driven narratives.
The animation features character designs from the original series, including those by Junko Kawakami for true tears, Mel Kishida for Hanasaku Iroha, and tanu for TARI TARI. By weaving these disparate worlds into a single narrative set at the Bonbori Festival, the studio sought to highlight their unified aesthetic and thematic consistency. The production was well-received by fans of the studio, who appreciated seeing the familiar protagonists interact within a shared, atmospheric setting.
