Where it came from
True Tears: Raigomaru to Jibeta no Monogatari was released in 2010 as a specialized tie-in project related to the P.A. Works anime series True Tears. Produced under the Bandai Visual umbrella, this release served as an extension of the franchise's narrative universe, specifically focusing on a traditional folk tale presented within the original series. It was designed to provide depth to the show's setting in Nanto, Toyama, by fleshing out the local legends that influence the characters' lives.
The production sought to capture a distinct, storybook-like aesthetic that differed from the main series' contemporary animation style, leaning into themes of regional mythology and folklore. By isolating this specific story as a standalone special, the creators aimed to highlight the cultural texture of the source material. It was received by fans of the series as a poignant, atmospheric companion piece that grounded the emotional arcs of the main show in the history of its fictionalized version of Nanto.
