Where it came from
Tsuki ga Noboru made ni was produced by OB Planning and released in 1991 as an original video animation. It emerged during a period of high experimentation for the adult-oriented OVA market in Japan, characterized by a focus on self-contained stories and niche artistic styles that aimed to elevate the visual quality of direct-to-video releases.
The animation reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of the early 1990s, characterized by softer cel-shading and character designs that prioritized expressive, atmospheric storytelling. While OB Planning was known for their work on various projects during this era, this particular title is noted for its specific thematic departure from the more mainstream action-heavy OVAs of the time, favoring a more contained and character-focused narrative structure.
