Tsuki ga Kirei Special

Tsuki ga Kirei was produced by studio feel. in 2017 as an original television anime series focused on the tentative, budding romance between two middle school students. The special, which serves as a companion piece to the series, reflects the studio's commitment to a grounded, realistic aesthetic that contrasts with more common, stylized anime tropes of the era. The narrative was meticulously crafted to capture the specific, quiet intensity of adolescent communication, relying on nuanced character animation rather than grand melodrama.

The series and its associated special were directed by Seiji Kishi, who sought to evoke a sense of nostalgia and authentic youthful vulnerability. The design philosophy prioritized subtle shifts in facial expression and body language to convey internal emotional states, a choice that was met with critical appreciation for its restraint and sincerity. By focusing on the simplicity of the setting and the natural progression of relationships, the production team created a work that stands as a deliberate, thoughtful exploration of first love.
