Tsuri Baka Eika-san! Sky Girls Dynamite Fishing

Tsuri Baka Eika-san! Sky Girls Dynamite Fishing was produced by J.C.Staff in 2007 as a direct-to-video special. The work functions as a comedic, lighthearted spin-off of the 2007 science fiction anime series Sky Girls, which was originally conceived as a multimedia franchise featuring character designs by Shinya Hasegawa. While the main series focused on aerial combat against the mysterious Worm invaders, this special shifted the tone entirely, opting for a parodic approach centered on the characters engaging in recreational fishing.

The production sought to capitalize on the popularity of the Sky Girls characters by placing them in an absurd, low-stakes environment that prioritized character-driven humor over the intense narrative stakes of the source material. By integrating fishing themes with the established personalities of the cast, J.C.Staff aimed to provide a supplemental experience for fans of the franchise. It remains a minor, niche entry within the studio's extensive catalog of 2000s-era projects, reflective of the era's common practice of creating humorous OVA episodes to complement televised series.
