Where it came from
Ultra Nyan 2: Happy Daisakusen was produced by Shouchiku and released in 1998 as a theatrical companion piece during the height of the Heisei-era Ultraman revival. The film features Ultra Nyan, a whimsical, feline-inspired variation of the iconic Ultra hero, designed to appeal to younger audiences through a softer, more playful aesthetic that departed from the intense combat focus of the mainline series.
The character was conceptualized as a mascot-like figure, leaning into the character goods culture prevalent in Japan during the late nineties. While intended as a lighthearted short feature for children, the film is now recognized as a distinct curiosity within the expansive Ultraman franchise, representing a shift toward experimental, family-oriented spin-offs that showcased the versatility of Tsuburaya Productions' intellectual property.
