Ultra Nyan: Hoshizora kara Maiorita Fushigi Neko

Ultra Nyan: Hoshizora kara Maiorita Fushigi Neko was produced by Shochiku and released in 1997 as part of a theatrical double feature alongside the Ultraman Zearth 2 film. The film was created during a period when Tsuburaya Productions was actively expanding the Ultraman franchise to include more family-friendly, comedic, and lighthearted character-driven content intended for younger audiences. The protagonist, a stray cat who gains superpowers after a meteor collision, was designed to act as a whimsical mascot rather than a traditional combat-focused hero.

The character design leans heavily into the chibi aesthetic prevalent in 1990s Japanese animation, focusing on a compact, expressive form meant to evoke sympathy and charm. While the film served primarily as a supplemental attraction in cinemas rather than a major feature, it reflects the studio's experimental approach to the Ultra series during the mid-nineties. It remains a minor but recognized entry in the franchise's broader portfolio, often noted by collectors for its departure from the standard gritty tone of the classic series.
