Where it came from
Ultraman Company, released in 1996 as an original video animation, represents a unique, satirical departure from the traditional live-action tokusatsu series produced by Tsuburaya Productions. Developed under the umbrella of Dentsu, the project was designed to poke fun at the corporate culture and internal politics of a fictionalized version of the Ultraman production team, shifting away from standard kaiju battles toward comedy and office-based antics.
The animation features a distinctive, stylized look that deviates from the gritty or heroic aesthetics typically associated with the Ultra franchise. It was conceived as a lighthearted experimental piece intended for a niche audience of dedicated fans, aiming to provide a comedic meta-commentary on the studio's own history. While it remains a curious footnote in the series' long timeline, it is recognized for its willingness to experiment with the brand's established identity during a decade of significant creative reinvention for Tsuburaya.
