Umbrella

Umbrella is a short film produced by the students of Geidai Animation, the animation department of the Tokyo University of the Arts. Established as a creative laboratory for emerging filmmakers, the department emphasizes traditional artistry blended with innovative digital techniques. This particular project serves as a showcase for the rigorous technical training and conceptual storytelling encouraged within the university's graduate program.

The film represents the department’s commitment to exploring atmospheric narratives through concise visual storytelling. By focusing on themes often associated with the transition between childhood and adulthood or the subtle shifts in everyday life, the animators at Geidai sought to evoke a specific emotional resonance. Upon its release, the film was noted by animation critics for its cohesive visual identity and the maturity of its character animation, reflecting the high standards of a studio that functions primarily as an educational incubator for Japan's next generation of animators.
