Where it came from
Umayuru is a 2022 original net animation series produced by Scooter Films as a spin-off of the popular Umamusume: Pretty Derby franchise. The series was designed to offer a lighthearted, comedic take on the characters, moving away from the more dramatic narrative arcs of the main anime to focus on short, whimsical vignettes centered on the daily lives and quirky behaviors of the horse girls.
The production utilized a distinct, simplified art style characterized by its chibi-inspired character designs, which were intended to emphasize the humorous and cute nature of the series. Upon its release via YouTube, the show was well-received by the existing fan base for its rapid-fire pacing and its ability to provide a brief, refreshing expansion of the franchise's world-building without the constraints of a traditional episodic format.
