Where it came from
UMISEA is a collaborative musical project and accompanying original net animation (ONA) released in 2021 by Cover Corp, featuring members of the VTuber agency hololive production. The project brought together Gawr Gura, Houshou Marine, and Ninomae Ina'nis to perform a lighthearted, sea-themed track. The initiative served as a bridge between the agency’s Japanese and English-speaking talent branches, utilizing the distinct, colorful character designs associated with the hololive brand to create a cohesive multimedia experience.
The animation was produced by the studio to expand the lore and interactive reach of its virtual idols, focusing on a vibrant, anime-inspired aesthetic that aligns with contemporary VTuber visual standards. The design reflects the playful, idol-centric approach of Cover Corp, emphasizing expressive character movement and pop-influenced musical production. Upon its release, it was well received by the hololive fan community, serving as a signature example of the studio’s efforts to blend high-quality music production with character-driven narrative content.
