Umiyuri Kaiteitan

Umiyuri Kaiteitan, or 'Sea Lily Undersea Story,' is a highly influential Vocaloid song released in 2015 by the producer n-buna, featuring the voice bank Hatsune Miku. It emerged during the mid-2010s peak of the Vocaloid scene, characterized by a shift toward more evocative, indie-rock-influenced narratives that prioritized emotional storytelling over pure technical exhibition. The song is celebrated for its distinctive upbeat, guitar-driven melody contrasted with melancholic, abstract lyrics that explore themes of longing and underwater isolation.

The song's iconic visual aesthetic, featuring a distinctive, minimalist illustration style, was created by the artist No 734. The artwork often depicts the character in a surreal, deep-sea environment, reinforcing the song's maritime motifs and ethereal tone. Since its debut, the track has become a staple in the Vocaloid canon, widely covered by other artists and recognized as a definitive example of n-buna's signature style, which helped bridge the gap between niche electronic music and broader Japanese pop culture.
