UN-GO: Inga Nikki

The character Inga was created for the 2011 anime series UN-GO, produced by the animation studio Bones. The series was designed as a modern reimagining of the classic detective stories of Ango Sakaguchi, transposing his literary mysteries into a near-future, post-war Tokyo. The narrative centers on the partnership between the detective Shinjuurou Yuuki and his mysterious companion Inga, whose supernatural abilities serve as a dark, metaphysical catalyst for uncovering the truth behind complex crimes.

The character design for Inga was crafted by pako, a renowned illustrator known for a distinctively sleek and sharp aesthetic. Inga was conceived to embody a juxtaposition of childlike vulnerability and unsettling, otherworldly power, often rendered in monochromatic or stark palettes to contrast with the series' gritty urban environment. Upon its release, the character became a central focus of the series' cult appeal, praised for its unique visual identity and the compelling, often strained dynamic Inga shares with the protagonist.
