Where it came from
The UniteUp! Mini Drama series was released in 2022 as part of a multimedia project produced by Sony Music Entertainment Japan. Designed to introduce the central characters of the franchise, these short-form animations served as a narrative bridge leading into the full television anime adaptation. The project sought to blend idol culture with high-quality animation, focusing on the formation and group dynamics of various fictional boy bands.
The character designs for the series were supervised to reflect distinct personality archetypes essential to the idol genre, aiming to foster immediate audience engagement through relatable tropes and polished aesthetics. As an ONA (Original Net Animation), the series was distributed digitally to build a fan base prior to the broader broadcast release. It was received as a stylistic introduction to the franchise's music-focused world, effectively establishing the visual identity and camaraderie of the characters.
