The story is set in Meiro-chou, a town where all-female diviners (uranaishi) live and where girls from all over the country yearn to become the top diviner — "Urara." Today, a solitary girl named Chiya enters the town's gates. However, she has another purpose coming here, besides becoming the Urara. Chiya's days as an apprentice diviner begin as she meets three friends — the earnest Kon, Koume who is a fan of Western culture, and the shy Nono.

Where it came from
Urara Meirocho originated as a four-panel manga series by Harikamo, serialized in Manga Time Kirara Miracle! before being adapted into a twelve-episode television anime by J.C.Staff in 2017. The series explores the life of Chiya and her friends as they train to become 'urara,' or fortune tellers, in the mystical town of Meiro-cho. The production leans into the 'cute girls doing cute things' subgenre, utilizing a vibrant aesthetic that emphasizes the whimsical, spiritual architecture of the setting.
J.C.Staff oversaw the animation direction, focusing on a soft, pastel-heavy color palette that mirrored the lighthearted and supernatural tone of the source material. The character designs were translated from Harikamo's original art style, prioritizing expressive, rounded features to complement the series' comedic moments. Upon its release, the adaptation was noted for its calming pace and its dedication to the specific lore of its fictional world, finding a dedicated audience among fans of character-driven slice-of-life storytelling.
