Usakame Special

The Usakame Special was produced in 2016 by Studio Millepensee as an extension of the broader Teekyu franchise, which famously features rapid-fire dialogue and absurdist comedy. Following the conclusion of the fourth season of the Usakame series—itself a direct spin-off focusing on the members of the Usakame High School tennis club—this special was released to provide a concluding narrative beat for the side-story's character arcs. It maintains the frenetic animation style and irreverent tone established by the original source material, which was adapted from the manga created by Roots and Piyo.

Directed and handled by the core creative team at Millepensee, the project sought to maintain the high-velocity pacing that defined the franchise's identity. By stripping away standard pacing conventions, the design intent focused on maximizing comedic impact through extreme brevity and visual gags. Upon its release, the special was received as a niche but expected offering for the dedicated fanbase, serving as a brisk, characteristic addition to the Teekyu universe that reinforced the studio’s commitment to experimental, hyper-speed storytelling.
