Graduation work of Kazuna Okada at Tama Art University, 2024.
Very Chubby Belly, nobody really likes her. Very Chubby Belly, they even wish her to be gone. Very Chubby Belly, she is in everywhere. Very Chubby Belly, little sad sweetheart. And I want to cuddle such a sweetie with lots of love. Very Chubby Belly.
Based on this poem written by Okada above. the work features small, warm, letter-like animation.

Where it came from
Very Chubby Belly is a student film produced at the Tama Art University, a prestigious institution in Tokyo known for fostering experimental animation and fine arts. The short reflects the university’s pedagogical emphasis on personal expression and surrealist visual storytelling, emerging from a creative environment where students are encouraged to blend traditional animation techniques with unconventional, often whimsical narratives.
The film is defined by its distinct aesthetic and lighthearted exploration of character-driven humor. It stands as a representative example of the indie animation scene coming out of Japanese art schools, where designers prioritize tactile, imaginative concepts over commercial polish. While it remains a niche piece within the broader landscape of student cinema, it is frequently cited in academic circles as a charming exercise in rhythm and character design.
