ViVid Strike!

ViVid Strike! was produced by studio Seven Arcs Pictures—often credited as Glovision for specific production management—and aired in 2016 as a spin-off of the long-running Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise. Created by the franchise's original author, Masaki Tsuzuki, the series was conceived to shift the narrative focus toward a new cast, specifically protagonists Fuuka Reventon and Rinne Berlinetta. The intent was to blend the series' established magical girl tropes with a significantly grittier aesthetic, drawing heavy influence from sports anime and martial arts tournament arcs rather than the high-fantasy combat of its predecessors.

The production design reflects a deliberate transition from the refined, sweeping choreography of earlier Nanoha entries to a grounded, visceral style of hand-to-hand combat. Directed by Junji Nishimura, the series aimed to emphasize the emotional trauma and interpersonal friction between its leads, moving away from cosmic threats toward personal vendettas. Upon its release, it was received as a polarizing departure from the mainline series, with audiences divided between those who appreciated the focused, character-driven storytelling and those who missed the broader scope of the original Nanoha timeline.
