Wake Up, Girls! Beyond the Bottom

Wake Up, Girls! Beyond the Bottom was released in 2015 as a cinematic continuation of the multimedia project produced by the studio Ordet. Directed by Yutaka Yamamoto, the film functions as the second part of the sequel duology following the original 2014 television series, which aimed to depict the grueling realities of the Japanese idol industry through a narrative lens focused on a group of struggling trainees from Sendai.

The production sought to emphasize a more grounded, underdog approach compared to the stylized polish often found in the genre, reflecting Yamamoto's interest in the tension between talent and the cutthroat nature of entertainment management. While the franchise received a mixed critical reception for its raw animation style and unconventional pacing, it remains a notable entry in the mid-2010s era of idol anime for its attempt to blend earnest character drama with the logistical challenges faced by small-scale performance groups.
