Where it came from
Wake Up, Girls! no Miyagi PR Yarasete Kudasai! was produced in 2016 as a series of short promotional ONA episodes. Developed by the studio Ordet, these segments were designed to serve as a bridge between the anime franchise and the real-world tourism efforts of Miyagi Prefecture. The series emphasizes the connection between the fictional idol group and their home region, utilizing the animation style established in the main series to encourage audience engagement with local landmarks and events.
The creative direction for these shorts focused on a lighthearted, documentary-style approach that blended character animation with footage or depictions of Miyagi. By having the lead characters act as PR ambassadors, the studio aimed to foster a sense of civic pride and interest in the prefecture. While the production was niche and intended primarily for the existing fanbase, it was well-received within the community for its successful integration of regional advertising and character-driven storytelling.
