Wanpaku Tanteidan

Wanpaku Tanteidan, or The Naughty Detectives, was produced by Mushi Production and aired in 1968. Set against the backdrop of the mid-20th century, the series focuses on a group of young children who solve mysteries in their neighborhood. It reflects the post-war Japanese interest in youth-led adventure narratives, a genre that sought to blend the curiosity and innocence of childhood with the excitement of detective fiction.

The character designs and animation style are characteristic of Mushi Production's late-1960s output, emphasizing expressive, simplified shapes meant to appeal to a younger television audience. Directed with a focus on episodic, self-contained stories, the series served as a charming staple of the era's children's programming block, though it remains a more niche title in the expansive catalogue of Osamu Tezuka’s studio compared to his major science fiction works.
