Where it came from
Watashi wa, Watashi no Koto ga Suki, or 'I Love Who I Am,' is a short film produced by Studio Colorido, a Tokyo-based animation house established in 2011. The studio, founded by producer Hideo Uda and former Ghibli alumni, is widely recognized for its vibrant, painterly aesthetic and emphasis on character-driven narratives that blend mundane life with subtle, fantastical elements. This project serves as a showcase of the studio’s distinct house style, utilizing soft character designs and fluid animation techniques to evoke a sense of introspection and emotional warmth.
The film was created to explore themes of self-acceptance and identity through a visual medium. By focusing on the internal monologue and growth of its protagonist, the creative team aimed to resonate with viewers experiencing the complexities of personal development. Upon its release, it was well-received within the animation community for its understated storytelling and the polished, atmospheric quality that has become a hallmark of Studio Colorido’s collaborative output.
